This research explores how communities in Birmingham engage with urban nature and addresses barriers to accessing green spaces. Led by the Centre for Urban Wellbeing (CUWb) and the Birmingham Voluntary Services Council (BVSC), the project involves local residents, community organisations, and environmental groups to understand cultural, social, and economic challenges.
Key findings highlight the need for a new approach to nature that connects with everyday life, embraces diverse perspectives, and fosters a sense of belonging.
The research emphasises the importance of nature for community well-being, urging inclusive, equitable access and action. Recommendations focus on empowering local communities, addressing environmental deprivation, and advocating for structural changes in urban planning.
