This project explored aging in the Birmingham and Wolverhampton regions, examining current conditions and future aspirations to identify areas for improvement. BVSC trained eight community researchers, who conducted 24 interviews with individuals aged 50-85. The study revealed a wide range of services and support for older people, though significant gaps and barriers were also noted. Challenges included difficulty accessing healthcare, a lack of services for mental health, and cultural mismatches. Recommendations highlighted the need for better access to healthcare, culturally appropriate services, opportunities for inter-generational activities, and greater involvement in community volunteering. While some issues are being addressed, inconsistencies across the city and economic pressures remain.
