Blood Borne Viruses and Tuberculosis

The West Midlands, particularly Birmingham, has a higher prevalence of HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Tuberculosis compared to other regions across the country. Recognising this, Birmingham has committed to the Fast-Track Cities+ initiative, which aims to address the inequalities caused by each of these 4 conditions.

BVSC Research and Birmingham City Council Public Health Division partnered on a piece of Community Research exploring knowledge about the conditions and identifying barriers to testing. Through the research created by the Community Researchers, a poster was created and presented at the BSPHN Conference 2026 – Complexity and Behavioural Science: Practical Strategies and Innovation for Complex Problems.

It was a really great opportunity to showcase the work - and hoping to find more opportunities to share the outcomes of this and other community research hub projects very soon!

Hi Jan. Thanks for this poster. Very informative and insightful. Like the fact that the format of the poster lends itself to the WhatsApp platform. For me this makes it easier for circulation in my community network group.

Thanks Quaye! Hopefully we can get the full report on the website in the next few weeks. Watch this space…

That would be great, Jan! The poster has generated some interest in my community amongst people who are intrigued by the findings. It appears the arrival of covid has relegated some virus related diseases to the background. Look forward to the full report and circulating it widely in the community to increase awareness.
